ABOUT ME
(DIANE RISOPOULOS)
A few words about what led me on this path of wanting to become a perfumer and also why I created this blog..
I’ve loved perfume since as long as I can remember. Living in Italy as a child, I remember my first olfactive memory in Parma, the city of violets. We went to visit the Charterhouse of Parma and they were selling by the entrance little bottles of violet-based cologne, as well as bars of chocolate. At age 7, being allowed only one treat by my parents, I agonized as to which one to choose. I ended up choosing the perfume and this smell is forever etched in my brain: sweet violets and chocolate (my brother got the chocolate and he taunted me with it on our trip home).
Over the years, I spent more and more time smelling any perfume I could get my hands on (once nearly missing a plane because of a duty-free sniffing stop). My journey has taken me around the globe and scents have increasingly taken the ability to evoke memories, creating little scented mementos of the various lives I lived in different parts of the world. Gradually, I began a perfume collection and started reading more academically about scents, the history of perfume and the skills that go into composing perfumes. The more I learned, the more I wanted to know.
It took a global pandemic to push me to take concrete steps towards my goal of being able to create scents, as the various online seminars and classes on perfume making I attended left wanting a more structured guidance. I enrolled into the only perfumery course in Grasse that didn’t require a degree in Chemistry, the 5ème Sens course called “Designer Olfactif” and graduated with top marks in June 2022. Since then, I have continued learning on my own, creating perfumes in my small home lab in Rome, where I live. In 2023 I started this blog to share my experience and my love of perfume.
I believe everything is possible and that the world is changed by those who follow their dreams.
What are your dreams?
